Live action integration and VFX work for Pep Boys by Hinge Digital.
Pep Boys
“Tire Change”
Visual Effects and Animation: Hinge Digital
Internal/Spec Spot
Challenge:
We collaborated with Zimmerman to take the successful Pep Boys bobble heads campaign to new levels of brand development.
Solution:
We developed a spot to showcase the next step in the campaign’s evolution by integrating the animated CG characters into our live-action world. We stayed true to the design of these iconic characters and their physicality as bobble heads, while introducing a new dimension of storytelling freedom through CG animation.

Bobby Rubio
“Robo Brigade”
2D Character Design: Bobby Rubio
Visual Effects and Animation: Hinge Digital
Challenge:
To integrate one of the robots from the Robo Brigade comic book property into a live action environment.
Solution:
Our animators choreographed the robot to interact with the live-action and queue the visual effects.
We added shake, reflections and alarm lights to the foreground car, cracks in the asphalt, dust, sparks, shadows, and reflections on the ground.
Our compositing team replaced signage, as well as removed graffiti, unwanted trees, and vehicles traveling in the background. Camera motion and color grading were added to accentuate the action and mood.
